OCTOBER 8

12:00pm Marine Diesel Basics
Captain John Martino, from the Annapolis School of Seamanship, will run through the basics of marine diesel engines and troubleshooting some common problems.

1:00pm The History of Navigation: Then and Now
Join Peter Trogden, owner & president of Weems & Plath, on a journey through the 4,000 year evolution of marine navigation highlighting the world's greatest explorers and famous inventors who developed navigation instruments.

2:00pm Get Your Captain's License
Between the USCG requirements for sea time, physicals, applications and examination, getting a captain's license can seem daunting. Annapolis School of Seamanship's Captain Paul Truelove will discuss the ins and outs of getting your captain's license from beginning to end.

3:00pm Attitude...Ordeal or Adventure
Bob Bitchin, world cruiser and founder/publisher of Latitudes & Attitudes Magazine, is living proof that attitude makes all the difference when it comes to cruising.

4:00pm Cruising the Chesapeake Bay
Autumn offers a spectacular range of cruising opportunities here in Bay country. From bird watching to fall festivals, Chesapeake Bay Magazine editor-at-large Janie Meneely will give you an update on where to go and what to do this season on the Chesapeake Bay.

12:00pm Cruising Unplugged: Staying Charged-Up Away from the Dock
With all the gear and gadgets on a modern sailboat, a balanced electrical system is the key to keeping everything working while you're away from the dock. Bob Campbell, of Marine Electric Systems, explains how to augment your charging sources and battery bank to suit your needs.

1:00pm Marine Weather for Sailors
Renowned marine meteorologist Lee Chesneau will familiarize sailors with the elements of marine weather, accessing sources for marine forecasts and how to use the information at hand to help make safe decisions.

2:00pm Marine Diesel Basics
Captain John Martino, from the Annapolis School of Seamanship, will run through the basics of marine diesel engines and troubleshooting some common problems.

3:00pm The Practical Navigator
Author and ocean voyager Ralph Naranjo will share how to get the most out of digital chart plotters and paper charts, harnessing the best of both worlds. This navigator's narrative takes you from local waters to a voyage around the world.

4:00pm Medical Emergencies Aboard
Even routine medical emergencies onboard can become critical due to the amount of time it takes to get help. Learn how to prepare yourself and your medical kit for handling these emergencies from an accomplished blue water sailor and surgeon, Dr. Laura Sudarsky.

Want to go sailing but don't know where to start? SpinSheet magazine editor, Molly Winans will set you on the right course with a seminar and interactive panel discussion of industry experts.

12:00pm The Gulf Stream: Structure & Strategies
Crossing the Gulf Stream or even going with the flow requires some knowledge and preparation. Frank Bohlen, oceanographer and experienced blue water sailor, shares his expertise in the physical characteristics of this spectacular boundary current and how to use the information for voyage planning.

1:00pm A Family Cruises Around the World
Have you ever dreamed of sailing around the world with your family? Pam Wall, along with her husband and two small children, followed their dreams of seeing the world from the deck of their 39' sloop. Share Pam's adventures aboard her boat as she and her family circumnavigate the world.

4:00pm Cruising the Chesapeake Bay
Autumn offers a spectacular range of cruising opportunities here in Bay country. From bird watching to fall festivals, Chesapeake Bay Magazine editor-at-large Janie Meneely will give you an update on where to go and what to do this season on the Chesapeake Bay.
