MARINE WEATHER: LEVEL I
This course is taught by Lee Chesneau, a well-known and recently retired NOAA/NWS Ocean Prediction Center meteorologist. Lee has been educating boaters
on the science, practical application and forecasting of weather for years. This course is designed to familiarize boaters with the basic principles of marine weather
formation and movement and how to use the information at hand to make safe boating decisions. Students learn how to use surface pressure and upper air maps,
analyze wave formations and analyze frontal and non-frontal systems. The course combines lectures and hands-on practice with various weather and surface maps.

LOCAL MARINE WEATHER – CHESAPEAKE BAY
This one-day course is designed for sailors and power boaters operating on
the Chesapeake Bay. Material covers the unique problem of predicting local
weather on the world’s largest estuary. There is also a strong focus on the
mariner’s ability to read the weather around himself or herself to avoid being
caught off guard by sudden weather changes.

OFFSHORE WEATHER ROUTING
This one-day course is designed for graduates of the “MARINE WEATHER: Level I”
class who are planning to venture offshore. The class focuses on methods of
obtaining weather information offshore and creating and maintaining a weather
route for offshore passages. Students work with Pilot Charts, Surface Analysis
and Weather Service predictions to perform weather routing. Real life scenarios
are presented in a time-lapsed manner to show how different routes taken by yachts
facing the same weather pattern can have drastically different outcomes.
